SNOW ALGAE ANTARCTICA
ECO SNOW
The past, present and future of snow algae in Antarctica: a threatened terrestrial ecosystem?
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Project Aims
Eco Snow aims to advance our understanding of the past, current and future distribution and physiology of snow algae blooms in Antarctica.
Aim 1
Understand the ecosystem’s resilience and response to a variable Antarctic climate
Aim 2
Model how its distribution, biomass and carbon cycling potential has and will change in response to climate change
Objective 1
Determine the PRESENT distribution of snow algae blooms and their physiological constraints.
Objective 2
Determine PAST geographic controls on snow algae distribution, frequency and seasonal area development.
Objective 3
Determine the FUTURE distribution of snow algae blooms under climate change predictions.
